The pool is well maintained and this is the best place to swim in Madurai. Swimming coaching is also being conducted at the premises. People from defense forces, police, merchant navy and people who need to know swimming as part of their job are frequently making use of these facilities. The pool is also frequented by young budding swimmers who strive to make a mark in the professional swimming field.
How to get there?
1) If you plan to go by bus, then catch a bus to Mattuthavani from Periyar or A bus stand and get down at KK nagar arch or high court bus stop. Walk towards Raja Muthiya Mandram. The road diverges to the right and left just in front of Raja Muthiya Mandram. Take the road to the left along Hotel Metropole. You would pass Government Law College. There is a vacant plot adjacent to it. Next to this vacant plot, you will find the swimming pool.
( This place is well connected by bus from Aarapalayam bus stand and Periyar bus stand)
Cost:
1) For children below 10 years, it costs Rs.10 per hour.
2) For adults, it costs Rs.20 per hour.
3) There is also a monthly membership for Rs.300.
Accessories provided:
Swimming goggles, cap and shorts are available at the swimming pool itself. If you are conscious about hygiene then, it’s better to bring your own shorts. Goggles can be rented at a cost of Rs.10 per hour.
Swimming training:
If you want to learn swimming, you can enroll yourself in a one month course that cost Rs.1000. The training fee is inclusive of one month membership. (So effectively you pay only Rs.700 for training). Training is imparted only between 6.00 am and 8.30 am. The support staffs are very cordial.
Precautions:
The walls and the floor of the swimming pool is a bit rough at certain places, so be cautious while swimming. Also, the chlorine content of the water is bit on the higher side. Its better to wear goggles.
First-aid:
In case of an injury, immediately contact the support staff. There is facility to provide basic first-aid.
